Notes |
- From a letter dated May 10, 1944 while stationed in Italy:
"“Speaking of films, we are getting our own bit of publicity around here. Sunday some G.I. photographers were in the ward taking pictures. One patient with his hands all bandaged up was photographed sitting up in bed with an ashtray held on a standard in front of him. He could smoke even though he couldn’t use his hands. Well the interesting fact is that I was his leading lady & lighted his cigarette for him. It’s a darn good thing that it wasn’t in Technicolor. They say I was really blushing. I have no more faith in these typical scenes. We practically had to rearrange the ward. The funniest thing of all was that the patient’s hands had just been redressed so that he could use a couple of fingers. But a roll of bandages took care of that without any difficulty. Now one of the ward men wants to know when MGM is going to bring my contract around to be signed. The film itself is about life in an evacuation hospital.“
