- WALTER CARLTON NORTON
Following an illness of two weeks, Walter Carlton Norton, 85, prominent farmer of the West Stockholm area, died at his home near there, Sunday morning. The funeral was held at two o'clock at the home, by Rev. Paul A. Roy, pastor of the local Methodist church. Interment will be in Chapel Hill cemetery in Parishville Center.
He was born in Bridgeport, Vt., on Oct. 26, 1860, a son of George and Jane Norton and had been a farmer all his life. He came to St. Lawrence Co., as a young man and first married in 1881 to Miss Estelle Crane. They lived in Parishville and West Stockholm and she died in 1915. The survivors are an adopted daughter, Miss Hilda Norton, who had kept house for him and a cousin, Mrs. Ida Bump.
Six years later, He married Mrs. Ellen Faulkner, Parishville and the couple made their home at the Norton farm in West Stockholm. Her death occurred in 1933. Mr. Norton had been active in Grange work for the past 60 years and in 1939 was given his gold certificate of fifty year membership. For 20 years, he had served on the Republican Co. committee.
